Club History
INFORMAL BEGINNINGS
The year was around 2010. A group of guys developed a friendship based on the common interest of ham radio. They would get together at various restaurants to talk radios, contacts, and just generally shoot the breeze.
The original group included Ray Jones K4CXS, Chuck Clark NQ3I, Melvin Graham KG4CUT, Joe Morris N4EU, and Bob Burnett AJ4VE.
OFFICIAL CLUB START
By the time the group had decided to create an official club in 2013, Ray K4CXS had died in an auto accident. Ray’s wife, Lisa, came to Chuck and Melvin and said that she didn’t want to just have Ray’s call sign put back into the FCC call sign pool, but would rather the call go to someone she knew.
After all the paperwork with FCC was handled, the club was officially formed using Ray’s original call sign K4CXS. This remains today the call sign of the club.
OVER THE YEARS
Over the years, various ham radio operators have moved into the area, moved out of the area, dropped out of and came back into the ham world, or even died. The club membership has ebbed and flowed over the years. In 2020 the Sun City W4SCP club started in the Sun City community and some of the members transferred over to Sun City. Some of our members did the duplicate club membership thing, and are still members of both clubs. Current membership is slightly more than 20 members. We are always ready to welcome new members into the club, no matter what their ham interests.
